Welcome to the Islamic Center of the South Plains in Lubbock.

MUSLIMS IN LUBBOCK

Lubbock is home to a vibrant and growing Muslim community of nearly 1,000 members, including around 150 families who have settled here and several hundred students at Texas Tech University.

Our community is made up of people from all walks of life. We have physicians, professors, teachers, engineers, and business owners, as well as students, parents, entrepreneurs, tradespeople, and service workers. Each contributes in meaningful ways to the growth, prosperity, and diversity of the South Plains.

The Islamic Center of the South Plains serves as the heart of Muslim life in Lubbock. It is not only a place of worship, but also a center for education, community building, and cultural exchange. Here, you will find:

Islamic Center of South Plains Timeline.

1981

The Islamic Center of the South Plains was formally incorporated by Dr. Fawwaz Shoukfeh, Dr. Ali Eldomeri, and Mrs. Ellen Eldomeri.
The first officers were appointed:

  • President: Dr. Ali Eldomeri

  • Vice Presidents: Dr. Fawwaz Shoukfeh & Dr. Nabil Attaya

  • Treasurer: Dr. Ayman Karkoutly

  • Secretary: Mrs. Ellen Eldomeri

1982

Land on LaSalle Avenue was purchased for the community’s future mosque.

1985

The first mosque building was constructed, establishing a permanent place of worship.

1996

The mosque underwent its first expansion to support a growing congregation.

1999

Land north of the original building was purchased, and a community hall was built to host events and gatherings.

2008

The Student Cultural Center (Student Mosque) was built to serve students and young professionals in Lubbock.

2010

The community secured 200 burial spaces at Peaceful Garden Memorial Park, south of Lubbock.

2015

A Sunday School was established to provide Islamic education for children and youth.

2020

The mosque grounds were enhanced with a playground expansion, and the entryway was expanded to welcome the community.

2021

The Endowment Fund was fully funded, ensuring long-term financial stability for the mosque and its programs.

2022

The main mosque was recarpeted, improving comfort and appearance.

2023

The community hall was renovated, with new flooring and modern lighting installed.

2024

Renovations were completed at the Student Mosque, and the main mosque’s parking lot was expanded.

2025

The community purchased 600 additional grave sites, ensuring long-term needs are met.
